1. Overview
Although the commencement of Remote Sensing application was almost ten years later than GIS application, RS software developed in bursts. Like the track of GIS, the development of RS software is designed for scientific analysis, but not for the real applications.

Based on the “Ninth-Five” Science and Research Program - “Net-work Based Ortho-image production Technology for Beijing”, GEOWAY started its design and development of remote sensing processing platform. In 2003, GEOWAY released GEOWAY IS (ImageStation) – the new generation of open remote sensing processing platform.

GEOWAY IS is developing from high resolution remote sensing data fast processing and map production to multi-source remote sensing data fusion, and to thematic information extraction. And GEOWAY IS also provides large-scale network based production management technology to improve the safety and efficiency for multi-source and magnitude remote sensing data processing.

2. Product design ideas

"Network, project and workflow based remote sensing processing product line"

Network: Based on large network database, GEOWAY IS realizes the centralized management and distributed processing for magnitude remote sensing data, and the sharing and cooperation of network resources, such as storage, computation and transmission.

Projection: Based on task database, GEOWAY IS provides real-time control and scheduling for data, personnel and workflow.

Workflow: By visualized workflow design and project control, GEOWAY IS realizes automatic, quick-respond, and multi-task cooperating data processing.

3. Structure

Platform:
GEOWAY IS（ImageStation） is a new generation of open remote sensing data processing platform. GEOWAY IS is designed to process high space and spectral resolution remote sensing images, provides image map production, thematic information extraction and image analysis. GEOWAY IS platform is developed using COM, which improved its stability, expansibility and efficiency, and supporting secondary development on it. Different from other desktop remote sensing processing software, GEOWAY IS platform provides network based production management service for magnitude remote sensing data production and greatly improved the efficiency for remote sensing data production.

4. Honors
GEOWAY IS won excellent software title on the first Test Conference of National Remote Sensing Software as soon as it was released, and it was widely used in national and military surveying and mapping organizations. And based on the technical support of GEOWAY IS GEOWAY undertaked the "Tenth – Five" National High-tech Research and Development Program – "Model cased Remote Sensing Monitoring and Evaluation for Natural Forest Protection Project".

• GEOWAY IS won the "Recommendation Software" on the Test Conference of National GIS Software in 2003.
• GEOWAY IS won the "Honor Software" on the first Test Conference of National Remote Sensing Software.
• GEOWAY IS won the "Specific Nomination Software" on the first Test Conference of National Remote Sensing Software.
